Write Your Own Song! – with Beth Wimmer & Mike Bischof

Have you always wanted to write your own song – but don’t know where to start? Or do you already have some ideas and need help to finish them? Then our songwriting workshop is just right for you!

In these 3 progressive workshops you’ll find inspiration, refine your creativity, and complete your own song. You’ll be supported by two experienced pros: Beth Wimmer (lyrics, melody) and Mike Bischof (chords, song structure).

For the full experience we recommend signing up for all three workshops, but you’re also welcome to attend individual sessions. 

  • When and where does the workshop take place?

  • The workshop takes place on three Saturday afternoons:

    • Saturday, September 6, 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm
    • Saturday, September 20, 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm
    • Saturday, October 4, 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm

  • Who leads the workshop?

  • Beth Wimmer: Born in California and living in Switzerland for over 16 years, this singer-songwriter has thrilled audiences at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Summerblues Basel and Paléo, and even reached No. 18 on the Euro-Americana charts with her album Bookmark.

    Mike Bischof: A musician and songwriter from the Basel region, Mike is a sought-after collaborator in various Swiss music projects – as a versatile guitarist and singer, he shapes live shows and studio sessions alike.

  • How is the workshop structured and what will I learn?

  • The songwriting workshop is interactive. Beth Wimmer and Mike Bischof guide you from your first idea to a finished song.

    The first session focuses on the creative process and song structure. The two experienced musicians share their unique approaches to songwriting and show how to turn inspiration into verses, chorus, melody and chords. You’ll discover different song structures and get initial impulses to develop your own ideas.

    The second session is all about refining your creativity and taking your song to the next level. In two groups you can either work with Beth on lyrics and text or with Mike on musical details and hooks. The goal is to strengthen your song idea, overcome blocks and discover new creative approaches.

    The third session is dedicated to fine-tuning: you’ll present your song and receive targeted feedback on how to finish and polish it. Together, lyrics will be refined, musical details worked out, and the song built up to a strong ending. At the end you’ll get fresh inspiration and tips for your future songwriting, so you can keep growing your strengths.

  • Who is the workshop for?

  • The songwriting workshop is for anyone who enjoys writing, singing or making music – prior knowledge is welcome but not required. The workshop is held in English – but don’t worry: Mike speaks German and will help you with anything you need.

  • Price
    • 1 workshop: CHF 150.-
    • 2 workshops: CHF 270.- instead of CHF 300.-
    • 3 workshops: CHF 380.- instead of CHF 450.-
