Interview

How did you get to the drums?
I was interested in percussion instruments from an early age. When I was young, I quickly got into drumming through a drumming course.

What fascinates you about the drums?
I am fascinated by the unadulterated sound of acoustic drums, the necessary coordination and the driving force of this instrument. In band projects, I like the role of being part of the rhythm section, keeping the framework of the music going.

What is the most important thing for you when practicing?
It helps me to set goals beforehand when practising. That way I can work in a targeted and more focused way. It is also important for me to have variety in a practice session. It's better to keep individual exercises shorter so that concentration doesn't drop off, but to do several different exercises. There must also be enough room for improvisation. Free daddling can also give rise to new approaches to exercises.

What do you pay particular attention to when teaching?
The most important thing for me is to give the students a good basis. This includes basic knowledge of the structure of different grooves, playing techniques and enough room for improvisation. In addition, I incorporate the wishes of the students into all the exercises. It is very important that it is fun and that people enjoy coming to my lessons.

What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?
A concert of my band "The Astronaut & The Fox" is one of my best memories on stage so far.We celebrated the release of our first EP with a concert in a small venue. The overall atmosphere with many familiar and new faces in the audience, the cosiness of the concert space and the joy of playing on stage was unique!

On which equipment do you prefer to play?
I play DW Performance Drumset, Meinl cymbals and drumsticks from Promark.

What else is important to you in your life besides music?
Friends and family are very important to me. I also like to ride my racing bike.
