Interview

How did you come to your instrument/voice?
According to my mother, I sang melodies before I could speak. At the age of 6, I wrote my first song. It was really bad, but pure and unfiltered. My first band followed at 13, and at 16 I began my music studies in Mexico.

What fascinates you about singing?
Singing is liberating, lowers stress levels, strengthens our immune system, releases happiness hormones, and helps us reconnect with ourselves.

What has helped you the most in practicing?
Passion for music, discipline, routine, patience & perseverance.

What do you pay particular attention to when teaching?
Ensuring that neither fun nor learning solid technique is neglected. In my teaching, I aim to nurture each voice in its uniqueness and see quirks & imperfections as opportunities.

What has been your best experience as a musician so far?
At concerts of my former funk band in California, elderly people with crutches and wheelchairs danced along on the dance floor. Their joy for 70s funk and dancing was so contagious. I enjoy every time seeing how music connects and touches people.

Which instrument do you most enjoy accompanying yourself on?
Depending on the mood of the song, I accompany myself and my students on the piano, the guitar, or with a backing track.

What is important to you in life besides music?
My family & friends, traveling, sports, time in nature & time for myself.
