Interview
How did you get to the drums?
I started playing drums autodidactically at the age of 5, by playing along to the Congolese music my parents listened to at home.
What fascinates you about the drums?
The fact that I can convey my emotions through the different sounds and parts of the drum set.
What is the most important thing for you when practicing?
Developing my playing within a group of musicians from various backgrounds.
What do you pay particular attention to when teaching?
Passing on my knowledge, inspiring my students, and seeing how they develop week by week.
What has been your best experience as a musician so far?
In April 2023, I played with Slum Village (my favorite rap group) at the Cully Jazz Festival. It was one of the most beautiful moments of my life.
On which equipment do you prefer to play?
Vic Firth sticks, Zildjian and Istanbul Agop cymbals, and Yamaha drum sets (Canopus for jazz).
What else is important to you in your life besides music?
Exercising, spending time with my friends and family, following fashion trends, cooking/baking, and continuing my education (history, languages, politics).
