Interview
How did you get to the drums?
As a child, I spent a lot of time drumming on pots and biscuit tins and at the age of seven I built my first drum kit out of shoe boxes. The drums and music then quickly developed from a game into a real passion.
What fascinates you about the drums?
I'm fascinated by the power of the drums in a band in terms of dynamics and groove. But also the range of possibilities for using the available sound palette.
What is the most important thing for you when practicing?
Practising slowly and methodically. And then exploring the different possibilities and variations to expand my skills and vocabulary. My goal is to be as versatile a drummer as possible so that I can fully express myself in the music.
What do you pay particular attention to when teaching?
The most important thing for me is to develop the personality and creativity of the students. I respond to their wishes so that the lessons are fun, interesting and challenging.
What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?
I have experienced many cool moments that are hard to compare. They range from the biggest concert I've played in front of 5,000 people to the completion of my band's first album and an improvised jam session that was musically extraordinary. That's the beauty of being a musician, it's extremely versatile.
On which equipment do you prefer to play?
I don't have a favourite brand or model, each one has a particular sound and characteristics that may or may not appeal to me. The best example of this is that I use five different brands of cymbals in my current set!
What else is important to you in your life besides music?
Music is a big part of my life, besides drums I play bass and piano and I also love to compose. But I also do a lot of sport and go on excursions.I like going to the mountains, hiking, cycling, snowboarding...
