Interview

How did you get into your instrument?
When I was four years old, I asked for a guitar for my birthday and started taking lessons during the school holidays.
I started playing electric bass at the age of 14. Some of my classmates wanted to start a metal band, but none of the guitarists were willing to switch to bass!
I only started playing the ukulele later, in my early twenties.

What fascinates you about your instrument?
What I love most about the guitar is its harmonic idiom. I really enjoy colorful, expressive chords, and the guitar is a great instrument for that.
What impresses me about the electric bass is its somatic quality. I find it fascinating how I can feel its sound resonate throughout my entire body.
I’m drawn to the ukulele because of the soft sound of its nylon strings and its re-entrant tuning.

What has helped you the most in your practice?<
Paying attention to physiology has been crucial to my musical development. On one hand, it's important for preventing playing injuries and increasing my endurance while performing. On the other, it helps me learn new techniques more easily and deepens my connection to my instruments and to music as a whole.

What do you focus on in your lessons?
I highly value the autonomy of each student and place special emphasis on communication and collaboration.

In addition, I focus on the emotional and expressive qualities of both music and the learning process. It's important to me that students not only engage technically, but also emotionally and musically.

What has been your best experience as a musician so far?
There are so many! But one thing that amazes me is that I’ve had the chance to make music and share the stage with musicians I’ve listened to and who have inspired me.

What equipment do you like to play the most?
Right now, my main guitar is a Fender Squier Contemporary Stratocaster with split-coil humbuckers and a Floyd Rose tremolo. But I also love my Squier Telecaster for its bright tone.
I use Reaper as my DAW.

What else is important in your life besides music?
My houseplants; the animals I meet outdoors; my circle of friends and family. And for the past few months, I’ve been getting into making metal jewelry!
