Interview

How did you get to the bass?
At the age of about 14, I discovered my love for heavier music and soon got my first electric bass to start a band with friends.

What fascinates you about the bass?
Mainly the versatility it offers. Both in terms of style and ensemble settings, I enjoy the maximum level of freedom that the electric bass and guitar provide. Whether it's a metal band, a jazz combo, or an orchestra – anything is possible.

What has helped you the most when practicing?
I find practicing easiest when it is tied to specific goals and projects, whether concerts, band rehearsals, or working on self-written songs. The better I can define what I want to achieve through practice, the more deeply I can immerse myself in the process.

What do you pay particular attention to when teaching?
For me, the relationship with my students plays a crucial role. The safer they feel and the clearer they can communicate what they want to achieve with the instrument, the better I can respond to that and tailor the lessons accordingly.

What has been your greatest experience as a musician so far?
It is difficult for me to name a specific event because of my long and extensive musical history. In general, however, live performances fascinate me the most. There is an incredible magic in the interaction between the musicians and between the band and the audience.

On which equipment do you prefer to play?
I now own a considerable number of instruments, some of which I have modified myself. Which one I prefer to play depends on the specific musical situation.

What else is important in your life besides music?
Being part of well-functioning social groups is extremely important to me. That’s why spending time with friends and family plays a major role in my life. Additionally, I always look for ways to express myself creatively beyond music.
